As a Senior Data Engineer at Bitly, you will be part of a seasoned data engineering team responsible for designing and building Bitly's next-generation data platform that powers analytics, experimentation, and AI-driven product features used by millions of users. You'll architect, build, and maintain infrastructure responsible for delivering data to our internal stakeholders as well as customer applications.
Bitly supports every country in the world and every platform imaginable. Our systems are built to process an enormous amount of data (billions of monthly events). To support our scale, our infrastructure consists of hundreds of servers, dozens of services, and numerous real-time data streams.
- Build well-tested, well-documented data services and improve existing ones—optimized for both traditional analytics and emerging GenAI/ML workloads
- Create pipelines to move and transform data efficiently; Design flexible internal and external APIs to expose our data
- Establish and enforce architectural and data quality standards, including monitoring, observability, and governance frameworks
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional leaders (across product, data science, engineering, marketing, finance, analytics, etc.) to ensure on-time delivery of key initiatives
- Support our internal teams in maintaining and designing user tracking events
- Mentor other engineers on best practices and implementation approaches and champion a culture of continuous learning, technical rigor, and AI-first engineering practices
Who You Are
- 4+ years of experience in data engineering on cloud platforms (GCP preferred), with focus on cost and performance optimization
- Adept at clearly communicating technical concepts to engineers and cross-functional stakeholders
- Expert in SQL and Python, with deep experience in data modeling, optimization, and reusable frameworks
- Proven track record with modern data stack: orchestration (Airflow), transformation (dbt), streaming (Beam/Spark), and data processing (Dataflow)
- Experienced in data platform operations: containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and data governance
- Familiar with modern data paradigms such as lakehouse architectures, event-driven systems, and AI-centric data tooling
- Good to have: Understanding of infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) and backend service development (Go)
